Soybean vs. Coconut Oil
In a 12-week study, 40 women were randomly split into two groups. Each group was given approximately two tablespoons of either soybean oil or coconut oil and instructed to follow a reduced calorie eating plan and to walk 50 minutes a day.

At the end of the study the "coconut oil group" increased their good cholesterol, reduced their bad cholesterol, and significantly reduced their waist circumference (stomach fat).

The soybean oil group levels of cholesterol went up and they didn't lose any stomach fat - even with a reduced calorie eating plan and walking 50 minutes a day.

Organic sources of fat like coconut oil and macadamia nut oil have saturated fat but it does not matter because they are full of nutrition and are better for you than processed vegetable oils, like canola and soybean, that cause inflammation in your body.

Give up Corn and Lose
Animals fed a diet of genetically modified corn gained weight faster and maintained the weight when compared to animals fed a diet of non-genetically modified corn.

The researchers also found that rats that were given a diet consisting of fish that had been fed genetically-modified corn, also gained more weight.

Protein digestion also becomes more difficult for the animals eating genetically modified foods. If you eat animals that have consumed a diet of genetically-modified grain or corn, or you eat genetically modified grains like corn you are going to get fat. Don't eat it and don't let your kids eat it.

When two groups of rats were fed high fat diets but one was wheat free and the other 4.5% wheat, the wheat free rats exhibited weight loss. The weight gain in wheat eating rats has nothing to do with calories but instead gluten proteins that disrupt endocrine and exocrine processes within the body, as well as modulating nuclear gene expression which alters metabolism in the direction of weight gain.

Do you have Metabolic Syndrome?
Increased consumption of sugar is linked to higher diabetes rates independent of rates of obesity. In other words, regardless of weight, sugar causes diabetes. In fact, the research controls for everything and meets longstanding criteria for causation. Given these findings, it is proof enough that sugar is poisonous and it is time to regulate by removing fructose from the safe list and setting limits on how much sugar can be added to a food. It is clear that obesity is not the cause of our dramatic increase of chronic disease but instead metabolic syndrome, which is a problem for normal weight people as well. Metabolic syndrome is a result of insulin resistance, which is caused by consumption of added sugar.

If you want to live longer, be healthy, lose weight – get rid of the sugar.

Olive Oil - Don't use it to cook
It's possible you could lose 5-10 pounds in a year by eliminated rancid or denatured oil from you diet. Oils are processed in order to lengthen and stabilize the shelf life of oils. Oils are pressed or extracted from seeds and nuts, they are degummed, refined, bleached, removing all the antioxidants, phytosterols, chlorophyll and letchin.

In addition, approximately 1% of the oil molecules are damaged during the processing. Some of these molecules have been isolated and tested with animals, and found to be very toxic. These oil molecules are changed into substances that have never been present in nature, do not fit into the very precise molecular architecture of the human (or animal) body, and therefore have highly toxic effects on life's biochemical processes.

Our body contains about 100 trillion cells. From one bottle of oil, each of our cells would obtain about 6 billion damaged toxic oil molecules. Each daily tablespoon would provide 100 million toxic molecules per cell per day. This applies to all cooking oils you may purchase in a store, or find in packaged food and restaurant food.

What about when you cook at home with olive oil? Unfortunately, olive oil has a fatty acid composition (largely Omega-9) that's not resistant to heat. Meaning, its structured gets damaged and becomes partially toxic when cooked. It is also not a whole food anymore. Olives are whole foods found in nature, but olive oil is processed, with the oil separated from the fiber and rest of the whole food that it came from.

What to do?

First, stop cooking with oil. Steam your vegetables or cook grains without using oil. You can even stir fry your vegetables lightly with water or vegetable broth in a "non-toxic" non-stick pan and avoid using oil. Then, if you want a little oil with your food, you can add it later, raw. Another option is to cook with s coconut oil, which is composed largely of medium-chain fatty acids that don't denature the same way polyunsaturated oils do. This is especially important if you must fry something or cook at high heat.

Follow these tips and you will reduce your intake of empty calories, detox faster, feel lighter, improve your digestion, reduce acne or skin blemishes, shed weight, and feel better.

Diet Soda will make you Fat AND Stupid
Stop drinking soda and 5-10 pounds in a month. Fake sugars like aspartame are significantly worse than real sugar and you know how I feel about sugar.

In fact, a recent study presented by American Diabetes Association suggests that diet soda actually makes you heavier over time. And a second study shows that the aspartame - the
main artificial sweetener in soda - actually accelerates diabetes in mice. Soda drinkers recorded have an average of 70% larger waistline than those that drink regular soda. Among those who consumed two or more diet sodas a day their waistline growth was 500% greater than among nondrinkers. Mice fed aspartame also experienced significantly elevated glucose levels, essentially making them pre-diabetic.

Artificial sweeteners also cause brain degeneration. Aspartame is an excitotoxin which is a substance that damages and even kills nerve cells by excessive stimulation. This can create or accelerate all sorts of nervous system related conditions, including memory loss and Alzheimers.

Stop drinking soda and 5-10 pounds in a month.

What 3 things increase IQ?
Omega 3s! Omega 3's from fish and other marine sources help prevent heart disease, dementia, certain cancers, Type 2 diabetes, and arthritis and boots immunity, eye health and lung function. It also increases IQ, especially in children and babies. Americans consume about 1.6 grams of omega-3 fatty acides per day on average but 90% come from alpha linolenica acid (ALA.) ALA comes from plant sources like vegetable oils or flaxseed. We don't need ALA we need eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) to reap the benefits listed above. You should also know that DHA is the most important fat in your brain and is more powerful the EPA so find a supplement that has 3 times more DHA than EPA, that has been independently tested to ensure that it is free of toxins such as PCBs and heavy metals like mercury and lead and that is 3rd party tested to contain the amount of omega 3 that they claim.

Man Boobs
Here are just a few reasons why you should not drink beer:

1) Most beer is made from wheat. And wheat is one of the richest sources of gluten, a known allergen and inflammatory protein that slows your metabolism and harms your health in a variety of
ways.

2) Beer is highly acidic it distorts your overall pH balance and can be a contributing factor in obesity.

3) Beer is made using chemicals or preserved with toxic additives that cause you to pack on the pounds.

4) It is yeast-based. Because of the type and amount of yeast that's used in beer making, many candida sufferers also find that beer produces extreme irritations of their condition.

5) Beer is estrogen-forming. One of the reasons men often get what's called a "beer belly" is actually something called estrogen-dominance. It's when testosterone levels are down, while estrogen levels are elevated. Certain foods and beverages, such as beer, can contribute to this as they contain estrogen-like properties called phytoestrogens. This leads to "man boobs"... beer belly... love handles... and other excess fat that accumulates on specific parts of your body.

I think I speak for most women when I say that I'd rather talk to or kiss a man drinking. Even a mixed drink like tequila, red wine than a belching beer drinker with a gut and man boobs. Soda water and lime juice is a far better option than beer.

How Wheat Causes Weight Gain
Gluten triggers an inflammatory response -- even if you don't have a gluten allergy which among other things causes weight gain. Lose it and lose up to 10 pounds in a month. This is because gluten contains a substance called zonulin, which can damage or even create holes in the lining of your intestinal tract which allow toxins to pass through and get into your bloodstream. This can lead to joint pain, "brain fog", gastrointestinal problems, anxiety or depression in extreme cases. The vast majority of wheat crops are bred to grow a higher yield but in the course of such breeding these crops may be much higher in gluten than other wheat strains in the past and lower in vitamins and minerals.

Inflammation creates extreme cellular oxidation and contributes to all degenerative diseases, including diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, cancer and obesity. Gluten can even reduce the absorption of other nutrients. Gluten-induced gut leakage, for example, inhibits your intestine's absorption of nutrients, like vitamin B12. Gluten also contains phytate, a substance that can block the absorption of minerals.

Gluten even contains lectins, which can bind to insulin receptors and create insulin resistance. They may also bind to your intestinal mucosa, causing your body to store more calories as fat. To make things worse, the lectins can trigger resistance to leptin, the hormone that makes you more hungry, even after eating a full meal. When lectins are combined with intestinal issues, inflammation and low levels of nutrients that can make your metabolism sluggish and you gain weight.

Whether you have gluten sensitivity or not, it's best not to eat and if you give it up, you are certain to lose 5-10 pounds in a month.

Why Low Carb does not work
Don't Eat Low Fat

Low-fat diets have officially been dismissed by all research evidence. Healthy fats actually promote weight loss, and some fats are good for the heart; eliminating them from the diet can cause problems.

Low Carb Diets DO NOT WORK

Eating carbohydrates — especially highly processed ones like white bread and white rice — quickly boosts blood sugar, which triggers an outpouring of insulin from the pancreas. The surge of insulin can rapidly drop blood sugar, causing hunger. Low-carb proponents claim that people who eat a lot of carbohydrates take in extra calories and gain weight. Limiting carbs in favor of protein and fat is supposed to prevent the insulin surge and make you feel full longer.

To make up for the lack of carbohydrates in the diet, the body mobilizes its own carbohydrate stores from liver and muscle tissue. In the process, the body also mobilizes water, meaning you are losing "water weight." The result is rapid weight loss, but after a few months, weight loss tends to slow and reverse.

The American Heart Association cautions people against following the Atkins diet because it is too high in saturated fat and protein, which can be hard on the heart, kidneys, and bones. The lack of carb-rich fruits and vegetables is also no good, because eating these foods tends to lower the risk of stroke, dementia, and certain cancers.

GMO's Kill
If you voted no to having your foods labeled if they are GMO - just to having the option to know if they are labeled.

Check this out:
A diet containing roundup tolerant genetically modified corn (GMO) can cause tumors and organ damage and lead to death in laboratory rats, according to research published in the journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology. The rats' diet reflected the kind of exposure to genetically modified food that humans who eat genetically engineered food should expect. In other words, it was the type of and amount of GMO that you eat when you eat GMO corn.

Next time we have the opportunity to be informed about our foods, why not just vote yes.

4 tips to change your brain
Rewiring your brain so that you no longer crave foods that cause you to be fat is the single most important step to maintaining your weight loss. Any diet will work to lose weight if you can stay on it - but no one does. Why? they have not reconditioned their brain. Food manufacturers have specifically designed foods to produce irresistible cravings by activating all the addictive responses and advertising is truly a science that produces triggers, like Pavolv's dogs, to go for the food at all costs.

How do you re wire your brain? You can't! It takes a teacher, a mentor to show you and give you a language. You have to learn how to think differently and you need someone that thinks that way to help you through it. There are few things as difficult to do as changing the way you think about food and eating and to expect that you can do it on your own is a recipe for a fat disaster.

Staying Skinny Over the Holidays
I love Christmas and the holiday season! Every decoration, all the music, and the food – I love the sights and smells of all the holiday goodies. My skinny girls and I do not eat these foods anymore because they trigger overeating and out of control behavior for us. But, not everyone has to give up holiday treats to stay skinny. Here are some tips to keep your skinny.

1. Eat three meals a day. It is especially important to eat breakfast. You might think that you are saving calories but in fact you have over 400% chance of being overweight if you are a breakfast skipper. Eating all your meals will help you from binging on more fattening foods.

2. Eat enough protein, at every meal. Protein will keep you full longer and keep your blood glucose levels stable which will keep your cravings at bay. Some good protein sources are yogurt, chicken, raw walnuts or eggs.

3. Don’t drink your calories. Skip the juice, energy drinks, sports drinks and especially soda. Alcohol is particularly devastating on the waistline. It completely stops the metallization of fat while the alcohol is being processed.

4. I just read about a study that found that eating an apple before breakfast, lunch and dinner resulted in 14 pounds lost in 12 weeks! How easy is that.

5. Get enough sleep. Sleeping at less than 8 hours a day can alter levels of hormones that regulate hunger, causing an increased appetite and a preference for high calorie foods.

6. My favorite tip is to walk around the block every time you put something in your mouth.

Finally, turning 40 years old and 40 pounds gone
I turned 40 two years ago in March; from New Year's of that year, I had wanted to lose 40 lbs. by the time I turned 40 on March 12th. Of course, I didn't. And I was left feeling like the failure I always felt like (I had made the same promise to myself when I turned 30, to lose 30 lbs. by that milestone -- failed that time, too). 3 Tips of Eating Out
Restaurant eating is perfectly fine on the Skinny Coach diet. In fact, many of my Skinny Girls and Manly Men eat out EVERY meal. However, without proper ordering you can be in for a disaster due to the exceptionally large portions and irresponsible preparation methods. When eating out follow these two tips for successful Skinny dieting.

1. Order carefully - no sauces, butter, oil or salad dressings. Clean grilled meat, veggies and grain will do just fine. A perfect Skinny Coach meal? Steak, asparagus and quinoa ... sounds yummy right?

2. Ask the waiter to bag half your meal before serving it to you that way you are not tempted.

3. NO BREAD

If you have a hard time following these tips you may have a more compelling underlying problem. The Skinny Coach diet uses behavioral modification techniques to re wire your brain so that you can eat what you choose to eat rather than what you are craving.

The season of eating has begun. From Halloween candy corn to New Year’s Eve egg nog, we will have Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah feasts and many parties in between - and that means weight gain. I have the solution at the end of this blog…

5 Skinny Tips for Thanksgiving
Poor Tiffany

People always look at me in dismay when the issue of Thanksgiving comes up. They feel a deep sense of sadness for "Poor Tiffany, you know she doesn't get to eat any pumpkin pie for dessert." Sometimes people who have not known me as long are assured that I must indulge at least once a year for the holidays. I am happy to assure them that yes, I indulged for the holidays for years. Before elementalyou I had pumpkin pie, pecan pie, spiced nuts, mixed nuts, chunks of cheese.... I had stuffing and gravy and seconds and thirds, I had rolls and cranberry sauce and hot toddy and egg nog. Yes, I know how to indulge. Yes, I have indulged. Yes, I weighed well over 200 pounds.

Now, I don't eat, even one bite of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving day and I am fine. I have had enough pumpkin pie. I have had so much pumpkin pie over the years of my fat life that I can actually remember the taste. I had enough pumpkin pie. Now I have skinny. Now I don't have to unbutton my pants after Thanksgiving dinner. Now, I can go for a walk while everyone else is comatose in front of the TV. Now, I am not too tired to get up the next day. Now I am not upset about how much I ate or disgusted by my failed attempts to only have one serving. Now, I can wake up the next morning for the big shopping day and slip into my skinny jeans and have a quick eyou smoothie and go shopping.

Do I feel sorry for myself? No.

Yes, the stuffing and pie all look and smell yummy, but I just don't eat that anymore and in exchange I get to be skinny. I have had enough pumpkin pie, I am trying skinny now.

A 2012 UCLA study showed that a diet containing high levels of sugar slowed brain function, memory and learning.

A 2010 Princeton University study demonstrated that sugar caused high triglycerides and significant weight gain, especially in the belly.

A 2012 Duke University study showed that high fructose diets increased the risk of liver injury including scarring, inflammation, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

2 reasons flour is worse than sugar
The elementalYou diet does not include flour because flour produces amylopectin which cause a larger spike in blood sugar than almost any other food. Yes, higher than candy bars, ice cream or pure table sugar.

What is amylopectin? Amylopectin is a super carbohydrate that produces an insulin response so strong that it cause fat to form specifically in your visceral organs - liver, kidneys, pancreas and intestines - this is what belly fat really is, it is the accumulation of fat in and around those organs. They later become engorged with fat.

What is Food Addiction?


Sugar and flour foods contain chemical compounds that stimulate the brain's secretion of opiate-like, "feel-good" chemicals like dopamine and norepinephrine resulting in a physiological and psychological craving for these foods - just like cocaine.

Not convinced?

Food addicts demonstrate tolerance, needing more amount of the substance to achieve the same feeling. Food addicts experience withdrawal, when the substance is stopped they are psychologically and physiologically uncomfortable and motivated to use the food again to relieve the symptoms. Food addicts are preoccupied with food, they feel guilty about their eating habits and continue in the face of terrible health problems.

Does that sound like you?

As with all addictions the first thing you have to do is face up to the fact that you cannot moderate sugar and flour. You can't eat just one. You can't just do it. If you could- YOU WOULD HAVE.

I abstain from sugar and flour and I have for over 15 years. Within one year my cholesterol dropped 40% to excellent levels, my weight dropped 100 pounds to a sexy size 8 and I never have to worry about a diet, losing weight or what I ate last night.

It is not hard – really! If you eat a balance of protein, carbs and fat and eat enough at each meal the cravings will disappear immediately. However, what is harder to change is the lifetime of habits and associations and failure that you have developed. Daily support and accountability is essential, but most importantly you must have someone that can help you re-wire your brain on a daily basis so that you do not fall into the traps that your brain has devised to get its drug of choice.

Why Low Carb makes Fat Belly
Low carb diets increase the stress hormone cortisol and cortisone causes belly fat. Over the long term elevated cortisol promotes belly fat, insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease. Low carb dies also increase levels of C-reactive which is a marker for inflammation which makes it difficult to burn fat and is also a risk factor for heart disease.

I know low carb diets take the cravings away and I know you can lose weight rather quickly, however it does NOT work in the long run either for consistent weight loss or for health. You can have carbohydrates and lots of them, you just have to eat them 1) at the right time of day 2) with the right foods and 3) always the right kinds.

How many times should I eat a day?
The popular concept of eating five or six mini-meals throughout the day is absolutely without merit. First of all human beings operated within a environment of feast and famine not constant grazing. And we know that the hunger hormones leptin and gherlin are messed up when you eat all then time. Plus, if you are constantly snacking, you do not realize how many calories you're really taking in and/or feel deprived from not having a big real meal. Most importantly, if your body is always given energy through snacking then it never has the opportunity to use your fat stores for energy.

73% More Likely to be Fat because of this
If you don't sleep you will likely be fat. People that sleep less than five hours a night have a 73 percent chance of becoming obese. If you only get 5-6 hours you have a 27% more likely than those that get 8 hours or more.

WHY? Ghrelin increases when you sleep less and so you are more hungry and eat more than you would if your levels where lowered after a night of good restful sleep.

Eating a salad for lunch is one of the worst meals for if you are trying to lose weight. You have to eat your meal with a carbohydrates and protein in order to lower the levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, which tells the brain when to eat. If you are not eating enough of the right foods at every meal you are not lowering your ghrelin levels and you will be starving and eat more later.

2 types of fat and insulin resistance
There are two types of fat: Subcutaneous fat, which lies under the skin and visceral fat, otherwise known as belly fat. Visceral fat is the most dangerous and the most troublesome. Belly fat is intimately involved in the production of inflammatory hormones that lead to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer. And on top of all that, belly fat actually makes it harder to regulate hunger making you feel hungry and like eating all the time. Because belly fat is the most hormonally active type of fat and the most dangerous type of fat it is important to understand why we get belly fat and the role of insulin resistance.

When we eat, our bodies produce insulin for our brain and muscles to use as energy. Insulin resistance is when your body cannot tolerate insulin at regular levels so it keeps increasing the amount of insulin it produces to try and get the insulin in the parts of the body that needs it.

The reason we become resistant to insulin is because in our modern diet we are eating too much fat and too much sugar. When we eat these foods over and over our body produces "free fatty acids." Free fatty acids inhibit the use of insulin making it increasingly difficult for the body to use the insulin it is producing AND it becomes increasingly more resistant the longer you tax the body with these foods.

If you are wondering why insulin results in a fat stomach, it is because when you don't use the insulin you produce for energy - it is stored as fat around your belly and organs.

HBO: Weight of the Nation
The Weight of the Nation is on HBO and everyone is in a tizzy. I wonder how many thousands of people will start a diet after watching this show, after finding out that almost 70% of Americans are fat, after realizing that 1 in 3 children will develop diabetes, that being overweight can cause permanent damage to your liver that is irreversible. Some people did not realize that their extra 10 pounds caused significant cognitive decline and dramatically increases your risk of Alzheimer's.

YET, everyone is still fat. I understand diet program after diet program says the same things and promise the same things. And frankly, most diets will give you weight loss if you stick to it. But what do we know works long term? Research has proven the following is absolutely critical if you want long term healthy weight loss:

1) Your brain has to change, there has to be a physiological change in your brain or your behavioral change will not last.
2) You have to have social support.
3) You must plan your food ahead of time – every meal, every day.
4) The food plan has to include all food groups and has to be easily incorporated into any lifestyle.

You can eliminate any diet that does not include a expert to help and guide you daily and re teach you how to think about food and diet. You can also eliminate any diet that does not include as a fundamental tenant that the diet is for life with no "free days", "special events," or exceptions.

If you are considering a diet and it does not include all 5 of the requirements that years of research has proven to be absolutely necessary – why would you waste your time AGAIN? Even if you lose 10 pounds when you go off, and you will, and gain the weight back you have done serious damage.

Every time you fail at a diet you are teaching yourself that you can't be trusted, that you don't stick with changes, that you are not reliable and it lowers your chance of success next time.

Sugar Causes Wrinkles

Neuro Science of Food Addiction
Addiction has two components, physical and mental. Sugar and flour are physically addictive at a chemical and cellular level, and as with any addictive substance, it must be eliminated. By definition, if an addict could moderate they would not be an addict – abstinence is a must. But even if you find a perfect diet, like the eYou Diet, that eliminates these triggers you still have a system of neural pathways that represent learned associations, habits and reactions to stress and life. This must be addressed. The neural pathways in your brain are developed based on what you have done in the past making the breaking of a habit difficult. What are required are the development of new neural pathways and a deterioration of the old pathways. Food addiction is real and it is as real as heroin or alcohol addiction. Food, namely sugar and flour, affects the brain and the pleasure centers of the brain in exactly the same way as drugs. Dogaminergic pathways – reward pathways - in the brain are responsible for motivating food consumption and also feelings of pleasure that you get when you eat. These pathways also activate other circuits throughout the body that regulate hunger, satiety and weight control.

In order to properly heal and be free long term you have to rewire those pathways. The problem, of course, is that those pathways represent how you think – you can't think differently because your brain is wired to say things like "one bite won't hurt" and if I eat that cookie I will feel better.


I work with my clients daily and people mistakenly believe that they need this because they need accountability. In fact, it is only through daily conversations in a multitude of varying situations is it possible to teach an addict how to think differently. My work is to literally rewire their brain, over time, so that they internalize a healthy eating lifestyle which leads to life as a person that is natural thin. If you were allergic to strawberries you simply would not eat. Your brain would not be activated when you saw strawberry shortcake, you would not have to talk yourself out of eating a strawberry pie, it would be a non-issue. This is true for foods like sugar and flour which are usually the food of choice for addicts – over time the old addictive part of the brain that was alive and firing at the sight of a donut or baked bread is dead and the part that accepts easily that you don't eat those things because they make you fat, sick and tired is alive and active.

Other diets fail because just following the diet does not make a "lifestyle change." Finally, turning 40 years old and 40 pounds gone
I turned 40 two years ago in March; from New Year's of that year, I had wanted to lose 40 lbs. by the time I turned 40 on March 12th. Of course, I didn't. And I was left feeling like the failure I always felt like (I had made the same promise to myself when I turned 30, to lose 30 lbs. by that milestone -- failed that time, too). Here I am, almost 42, and I did it -- I lost the 40 lbs.!!!! I'm so proud of myself!! Plus, I'm almost out of the 40's in my measurements!! And, as much as I love the results, I'm most happy inside, where I feel like I've conquered my demons. It just keeps getting better! - Angela

6 Belly Fat Facts
Your waist to hip measurement is the best way to measure health. Waist circumference should be measured at the smallest part of your torso DIVIDED BY hip circumference which should be measured around the widest portion of the buttocks. The closer you are to .70 the healthier you are. ALSO, research has found that the closer your waist-hip ratio is to .70 the more attractive you are to heterosexual men.

Stress causes an increase in cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone that causes the storage of fat to be deposited directly on your abdomen.
Take 10 deep breaths: breath in for 10 seconds, hold for 10 seconds and breath out for 10 seconds – TEN TIMES to keep cortisol at bay.

Green tea has two chemicals called polyphenenols and catechins that boost metabolism and help burn fat, specifically in the belly region. Additionally, adding lemon acts as a natural appetite suppressant. You need 5 cups a day. White tea, which is the immature bud of green tea, is preferred.

Yogurt: Two groups of people eat the same amount of calories. One group eats two cups of nonfat plain yogurt a day the other does not. The group that eats the yogurt loses over 80% more weight from the belly area and over 60% more fat. Since my Skinny Girls started pumping up the yogurt I have seen dramatic losses in waist circumference, up to 6 inches in one month.

When you eat carbohydrates your body converts them to glucose and glucose is used for energy. If you eat
refined carbohydrates like sugar and flour it is processed too quickly and produces an overload of energy. If you do not burn these calories the body stores them as fat. Remember carbohydrates are GOOD – fruit, oats, brown rice, potatoes, and quinoa. The problem is refined carbs because cause a rapid rise in blood sugars

Belly fat is the worse type of fat for your health. Belly fat is
visceral fat and it is tucked deep inside your waistline and torso suffocating your internal organs, including the heart. It causes the most inflammation and hardening of the arteries. They found that people with the most belly fat had about double the risk of dying prematurely as people with the least amount of belly fat.

*Coconut Milk: Better for you then soy, almond or dairy milk by far, this miracle juice helps you lose weight and contributes to a healthy body. This rich source of manganese helps maintain blood sugar places and also relaxes muscles and nerves, it also will keep skin elastic due to large amounts of copper. When your Dr. is WRONG
Help I have high triglycerides AND my blood sugars are high. My friend called me yesterday and told me his doctor has informed him the news and then his doctor said exercise more.
ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME.

How long are doctors keep going to say exercise if they are fat or sick. Exercise has a LIMITED effect on weight loss and also a limited effect on blood sugars*.

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE FOOD


When you eat flour or sugar you body produces the hormone insulin. Insulin is converted in the liver into glycogen, glycogen is used to feed the brain and muscles.

Excess glycogen is converted in the liver into triglycerides. The triglycerides do one of two things
1. The remain in your blood stream THUS high triglycerides. By the way the problem with high triglycerides is it thickens your blood increasing the chance of heart attack and stroke.

2. The excess insulin - glycogen -triglycerides are stored as belly fat. When you have excess glycogen it is converted into triglycerides and stored in the belly. To add insult to injury excess insulin sends a hormonal message to NOT RELEASE stored fat.

Excess insulin/glycogen also causes hunger. Because a rise in insulin results in lower blood sugar at first and this results in hunger - usually less than a couple of hours after you eat and usually in the form of a craving for sweets - of course, starting the process once again.

What can you do? Well once you have high triglycerides you can eat more oatmeal, and flax and walnuts. You can take fish oil. You can exercise. But nothing is going to have a more dramatic effect than to reduce or eliminate flour and sugar from your diet.

Food Porn - Orange County Style
County Fairs have been around as long as counties have been around. The excitement of the sights, the events, the rides... is palatable. But what is it that we really go for, I mean really? THE FOOD of course. Everywhere I looked I saw food, food glorious food. Of course, as I looked longer I began to realize that it was not so glorious. Fair food has been bastardized into the macabre representation of American.


Only in America where the obesity rate is 67%, only in America where OUR cheese (American cheese) is actually not cheese but a food-like substance, only in America where we cut our stomachs out rather than shut our mouths would there be chocolate covered bacon, maple bacon donuts, glazed donut bacon cheeseburgers, chicken fried bacon, and, of course, deep fried twinkies, deep fried mac-n-cheese, deep fried Kool Aid (yes), deep fried dough, deep fried avocado, deep fried brownies, deep fried Klondike bars, deep fried candy bars and the beloved deep fried butter.


And boy ohh boy we love our food. Or do we? I saw children, men and women all over the fair fixated on the chili cheese fries - salivating while in line and before the last bite of their BBQ pig sandwich is stuffed in their mouths, their eyes wandering to the Indian Fry Bread. The people did not seem happy, they seemed to be in a coma-like trance as they opened their mouths and carried their huge bellies around the food stands, one after another. No, they did not seem to like what they were doing.



It occurred to me how lucky I am when one of my friends looked at me with sympathy as she swallowed a deep fried corn dog "I'm sorry you can't eat." I am lucky that while I used to love a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, I can choose no. I can choose no to cotton candy and deep dish pizza and caramel apples. I can choose no to a fat stomach, heart disease and size 22 shorts. I can enjoy the rides, I can dance to the music, I can wear a sexy little summer dress and light heels and I can enjoy the people around me. I am LUCKY to be free from the food that is killing my friends, my neighbors and more than 2/3's of Americans.

Sabotage, my husband said I can't do it?
It is human nature to have hope. We all have more trust and belief in ourselves than we think we have. Once inspired you can do anything and you know it. But we do not live in an emotional vacuum. We are communicative beings and what the people around us say, don't say - do and don't do effect us and our feelings of power and self worth.

AND YOU DONT KNOW IT IS HAPPENING because you give yourself up one molecule at a time.

Before you know it you are believing your husband when he says that you have failed every other diet so this one won't work. Even when you know at every level of you being that this will work, that you found your answer, that you are ready - you believe him because.... "he knows me."

Yes, all the diets in the past failed. That is true for everything you did not conquer on the first try. You failed riding a bike until you did not fail anymore. You failed at swimming until you did not anymore. EVERYONE of my Skinny Girls FAILED on every diet they had ever been on UNTIL the eyou diet, including me.

Strengthen your willpower: How to
It is very psychically damaging and debilitating to tell yourself that you are going to eat better today, and then don't, to tell yourself that you are not going to have a second piece of chocolate and then have it… it is a day after day, meal after meal, onslaught of disappointment, failure and lack of trust. This can have a profound effect on how you feel about yourself and your power over the world and it will permeate everything that you do.


Self control and self discipline is a muscle and when worked and used becomes stronger and more efficient. Each time that you garner control over an impulse that impulse not only lessens but your ability to control other impulses gets more attune and efficient.

I will give you a personal example, when my client, Samantha calls me and tells me that it is was so difficult for her to drive past Starbucks because she is so used to having a Frappuccino everyday after work and she is proud of herself. I tell her , "Listen Samantha, that is great that you drove past Starbucks but I want you to know that you did not succeed just this time, by doing that today next time will be easier too! And before you know it the association of driving past Starbucks and not stopping will be more prevalent than stopping. You will no longer need to use self control because it won't occur to you anymore – you have a new association. Additionally, each time you say no, every single time, you are strengthening your will "muscle" you are telling your self in a very conscious and unconscious way that you are not a liar, that you do what you say and that you have the ability to choose."

I have a friend who has lost 50 pounds and has about 20 pounds to lose and he SMOKES too. I feel a strong need to encourage him to quit smoking, he is almost 50 years old and has been smoking his whole life, but because he is doing so well with his weight loss I think it is probably better to let him strengthen his will power muscle, gain control over the eating and then when he is ready to quit smoking he will know he can do – he has control, he chooses his behavior, it is his choose and he can make that decision and do it.

So go out and exercise your willpower muscle – every time you say no, every time you clean the house instead of put it off, each time you resist the urge to honk your horn and every time you put down that donut you are getting stronger and better.

Thin, fit people make more money, we have known that for decades. A recent study in the Journal of Applied Psychology demonstrated that weight has a significant impact on a woman's pay - the fatter you are the less money you make. In fact, skinny women make on average $22,000 more dollars per year than average-weight woman.

research is also very clear, skinny women are healthier and live much longer lives than average-weight women. While it might not "be fair" and it might be discriminatory, it is certainly based on an assessment of what is healthy and not on an unrealistic or sick perversion of the female form.

I find this study particularly fascinating because I talk to women all the time that are desperate to lose weight, desperate to get skinny, know that the eyou diet will work and say they can't afford it - they do not make enough money.

Maybe next time someone says that, instead of saying, "well, call when you are ready" or "you know losing weight will take years off your life" or "but you said you did not want to have sex with your husband because of your weight gain" or "but you said that you go to bed miserable every night and wake up and have nothing to wear," or "but you were just told by your dr. that if you lost weight you would not have diabetes anymore" instead of all that, next time I hear "it costs too much" I will simply say that being fat can cost them $22,000 dollars a year!

Weight Loss Confidential:
Not all calories are created equal
For every 100 calories of carbohydrate you consume your body expends 5 to 10 calories in digestion, for fat calories even less. However, for every 100 calories of protein you consume, you body needs 20 to 30 calories to digest it.

AND it's even more complicated.... Just because you eat these calories does not insure that they are being digested.

Normally as the calories go through your tummy and reach your small intestine most of the nutrients are absorbed. Fat is digested fairly well. Protein and all animal sources are also fairly digestible. Plant sources are the least digestible. What does that mean? complex carbs like vegetables and whole grains block the absorption of calories, including other calories! In fact, a very high fiber diet, like the eyou diet, can block up to 20% of the calories you consume. A research article in the Journal of Nutrition found that a high fiber diet leaves up to twice as many calories undigested as a low fiber diet.

WHAT TO DO?
If you want to lose weight, this is the hot tip: eat protein at every meal and consume at least 40 grams of fiber a day.

Skinny saves (you money!)
I help women lose weight and take control of what they put in their mouths. After a potential client has poured her heart out to me, cried, laughed and told me that she is ready to get skinny and that elementalyou is perfect for her, sometimes the next thing she says is “I can’t afford it.” Money is on everyone’s mind these days. Nevermind that McDonald's stock
went up 10% this quarter (they are “lovin’ it!”)

Economic hard times push people to eat cheaper food and what could be cheaper than the fast food dollar menus. Hard times also produce stress and stress leads people to self-medicate. The drugs of choice for many, when self-medicating, are sugar, fat and refined foods. But make no mistake about it, your health is your most important asset and being overweight taxes your health and life in so many ways; naming ALL of the costs of being overweight would make this a novel - not a blog entry. But some of the costliest, and most obvious side effects of being overweight include: overweight people are more likely to have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease and stroke.

Being overweight not only burdens your health, it is a burden on your purse. What are some of the costs of being fat? Well, aside from the fact that eating more costs more, there are many other costs associated with being fat. If you are overweight you are less likely to get hired and once hired you will get paid less. In fact, fat people tend to make less money and accumulate less wealth in their shorter lifetimes than their skinny counterparts. It chips away at your earning power and efficiency - and happiness. There's some research that suggests that overweight people are even less likely to be married and stay married.

If you took these savings each year and invested them at 8%, in 20 years, you'd have almost $114,000. Do it for 30 years and it's $282,000. 40 years gets you $645,000. Should McDonald's advertising be forbidden?

WIf you are still thinking that obesity is about willpower or emotional weakness and psychological problems then here is yet more evidence proving that food is addictive, especially food that is high in sugar.

Women that report compulsive eating habits have physiological responses in the brain exactly like drug addicts. Using MRI's, is has been demonstrated that seeing a milkshake triggers brain activity in the anterior cingulate cortex and the medial orbito-frontal cortex of the brain. Both of these areas are implicated in drug addicts urge to use drugs like cocaine. This means that compulsive over eating is driven by an overly excitable or enhanced anticipation of the rewarding properties of food.

Some people, namely people addicted to food, will react with physical, psychological and behavioral changes when exposed to the food. This, of course, directly implicates advertising in the obesity problem. Do you remember when they stopped allowing cigarette and alcohol commercials? They did so for the same reason.

Bottom line, if you find that you can't stop eating bread, pasta or pastries after you start, of if you see a commercial for ice cream and have to have it, you have issues more than willpower and you probably need help to overcome these issues and lose the weight. You will never be able to moderate your intake just like a drug addict can not moderate her heroin use.

All calories are not created equal

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has reported for the first time that whole grain intake reduces belly fat (measured either as waist circumference or intra-abdominal, visceral fat by CT scan.) AND importantly, refined grain intake actually increases belly fat.

For years people have said a calorie is a calorie. Intuitively we all knew this could not be true. The research is finally justifying the simple truth that it is not that simple. Different foods have different effects on our bodies and are processed more efficiently.

We know that eating whole foods have a plethora of health benefits. Brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa all have been documented to lower risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, lower blood pressure, and on and on. However, it has never been academically documented that it actually decreases belly fat. YES my friends it is a spot reducer.

Refined foods, like sugar and flour, have been "refined" OF fiber, vitamins and minerals and other important plant compounds. These empty carb, these refined carbs, cause our blood sugar to spike and this spike causes a flood of problems throughout our body that it then has to deal with, including sever carbohydrate cravings.

Now we know that by eating whole carbs, by eliminating sugar and flour, we can lose 10% more weight in our belly than those who continue to eat bread, pasta and cookies. That is a pretty big effect if you have a belly and can't seem to lose that last 10 pounds or if you have 100 pounds to lose and you want to do it FAST but healthy.

Fat cells do more than just keep you fat

Fat cells do more than just keep you fat they produce hormones. Fat cells produce inflammation molecules. These molecules do a lot of damage on your metabolism by increasing your appetite, slowing fat burning and increasing stress hormones. Of course, you get excess fat cells from too much stress, too much sugar, too much refined foods, too much fat, and over exposure to toxins, pesticides and allergens.

Insane in the Membrane

Do you remember those old commercials with the whole egg- “This is your brain.” Then the egg is cracked into a hot frying pan- “This is your brain on drugs.” That commercial could have said-“This is your brain on sugar.” The effect of sugar on your brain is frighteningly similar to the effect of drugs on your brain. Sugar is just another white powder- like cocaine; in fact, current research shows that intense sweetness surpasses the cocaine reward response in the brain.

Bart Hoebel is a Professor of Psychology, in the Program of Neuroscience, at Princeton University. At the recent Obesity and Food Addiction Summit, Hoebel presented 10 years of research that was designed to test the theory that sugar can be addictive. The results were conclusive -sugar is addictive. Sugar, said Hoebel, triggers production of the brain's natural opioids. Opioids are the brain’s feel-good chemicals. "We think that is a key to the addiction process," he said. "The brain is getting addicted to its own opioids as it would to morphine or heroin. Drugs give a bigger effect, but it is essentially the same process."

When you eat sugar, a multitude of physiologic processes take place that affect your entire body, and especially your brain. Sugar and sugar products are so devoid of fiber and other nutrients that they digest rapidly, raising blood glucose. So you get a rush of energy, your brain releases dopamine and endorphins and you feel happy, calm, relaxed and self-confident. just like an addict does when they use drugs. But the quick raise in blood sugar falls quickly as well, causing rapid mood swing and leads to depression, anxiety, frustration and exhaustion, just like "coming down" from a drug induced high. This leads to another craving for another "quick pick me up," much like a "fix" for a drug user.

In the recent studies, after a few weeks of bingeing on sugar, the animals being tested showed neurochemical changes in the brain similar to what is seen with addictive drugs such as heroin. When the animals were given naloxone, a drug that block’s the brain’s opioid receptors, they showed signs of withdrawal such as teeth chattering, anxiety and changes in dopamine release similar to morphine, alcohol or nicotine withdrawal. If the animals couldn’t get sugar, they showed increased hyperactivity in response to amphetamine and were prone to drinking alcohol! Sound familiar?

Serge Ahmed is a scientist who specializes in addiction research in Bordeaux, France has found that virtually all the animals he tested preferred saccharin sweetened water over intravenous cocaine, a highly addictive drug. Interestingly, this preference for saccharin is not attributable to sugars unnatural ability to induce sweetness without calories, because the same preference was also observed with an equal concentration of sucrose (a natural sugar) sweetened water. This finding suggests that it is not the chemical makeup of the substance itself that is addictive, but rather the reaction of your body to tasting it and the subsequent neurochemical reaction that is addictive. So, all sweetened foods may be addictive, not just sugar sweetened foods!

The research also showed that sweetened water was preferred over cocaine. The animals tested were more willing to work for sweetened water than cocaine, even if they had to work harder to get it. What does it mean? Sugar or calorie-free sweetener sweetened water is more addictive than cocaine!

Ahmed and his partners speculate that the addictive potential of intense sweetness results from an inborn sensitivity to sweet tastants; in most mammals, our sweet receptors on our tongues evolved in ancestral environments poor in sugars and are thus not adapted to high concentrations of sweet taste. This means that when we eat sweet foods, which are highly available in today’s society, they act as supranormal stimuli (super stimulants), creating a super reward signal in our brains and that has the potential to override self-control mechanisms. By definition, a supernormal stimulus is more effective than naturally occurring stimuli in controlling behavior and therefore can override normal behaviors. These combined factors make sugar addiction almost unavoidable!

The DMS-5 comes out next year and food addiction will be listed as a substance abuse addiction. Finally the research is catching up to what we who have this issue already know. This is not an issue of willpower. But you are not alone and with the right help and the right diet you can beat the food industry at their game.

Overeating is Not an Emotional Issue
Obesity being a sign of self hate is a popular notion in the pop psychology field. Geneen Roth goes as far as saying "the issue is really not about the food" its about your disconnection with God. Oprah sang the praises over a year ago, saying she finally found the answer - yet she is still obese - which is killing her fast.


I am not surprised that people capitalize on the inherent insecurities involved with weight and women and blame the woman, some how it is her fault, she is weak, disconnected, emotionally struggling.

But, obesity is not an emotional issue. It just simply is not.

For years, alcoholism was thought also to be emotional issue. We now know conclusively that it is not. It is a bio chemical and bio neurobiological issue AND has a strong heredity component - both of which are more strongly associated with a person becoming an alcoholic than is their environment, childhood abuse or trauma or personality.

Obesity is also a bio chemical and bio neurological issue. Yes, a few pounds here or there might be to comfort yourself during a break up or in the winter or when you are sad. NOT 30 pounds over years of struggling and dieting. Food, in particular sugar and flour, release a series of strongly pleasing neurochemicals in your brain. This process is addictive and is progressive and it is driven by the same neurobiological mechanism in the brain as drug addiction.

Over-consumption of refined foods (sugar and flour and anything with sugar and flour) triggers addictive neuroadaptive responses in the brain reward circuitries. Specifically, dopamine which is a neruotransmitter that is released by pleasurable experiences like sex. When we eat refined carbs there is a significant decrease in dopamine receptors which means dopamine is in the system longer and results in an incredibly pleasurable experience. Refined foods, like cocaine also damage the receptors so that pleasure is more difficult to achieve without the drug of choice.

Additionally, starting the very next day after an incidence of refined food overeating, which is the equivalent of some pizza and soda, the brain is changed in a way that is consistent with a person that is overeating for several weeks. Which means that that refined food overeating is habitual in the same manner and through the same mechanism as drugs.

While being fat is emotional and you might eat to cover up, hide the pain, check out - it only works to do those things because it is a drug that makes you feel better.

If you find that you can not control what you put in your mouth. If you find that you are spending too much time and thought on food, do you feel hopeless about your relationship with food, do you feel like you are not yourself - like you don't recognize the person in the mirror? Do you eat when your not hungry? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Then you probably are having some degree of addictive reaction to certain foods. Just like with all addictive substances the only known answer is abstinence. You will have to learn to not eat refined foods - not a little, not in moderation, not on special occasions. Moderation does not work when you are dealing with a neurobiological addiction.

3 Things You Must Do to Lose the Belly Fat

What is going on with that growing stomach? Why? all of a sudden, do you have a tummy and can’t lose it? Unfortunately, mother nature is wildly against us as we age. Several things happen to make a bigger waist almost inevitable.

First, as we age, estrogen levels decrease and as estrogen drops the weight goes to your belly instead of your hips. On top of that belly fat is very chemically active. It is constantly releasing fatty acids which in turn create high insulin levels in your blood. Insulin's job it is to remove glucose from your blood for energy use. So to add insult to injury, when insulin is overproduced what is not removed is stored as ABDOMONAL FAT. And on top of that, when insulin levels are high, your appetite increases and makes you crave refined carbs which in turn makes you feel hungrier.

But there is more bad news, as we age we lose fat burning muscle, at a rate of ½ pound of muscle a year, which of course means you gain fat –at a rate of 1/3 of a pound a year of just fat.

What else?
As your hormones decrease with age the lining of the intestines become much more sensitive leaving sugar to ferment longer in the digestive track which drastically increases your sensitivity to carbohydrates.

If you continue to eat the way you always have you are guaranteed to have a larger waist circumference and a fatter belly. The ONLY way to counter act your growing waist is to keep the insulin level low and the blood sugar balanced.

What can you do?
Glucagon is the hormone that balances insulin and glucagon is stimulated by protein. Glucagon literally pulls the fat out of the cells and once glucagon is high it remains in your system for around 4 hours, which means you are burning fat and you are NOT HUNGRY.

This means you need to have protein at every meal, never eat any carbohydrate alone and completely remove all added sugar and flour from your diet. No pizza, no bread, no pasta, no agava or honey or sugar and you will keep a small waist, flat belly and slim body.

Can'’t live without those foods? Then you will not ever have that flat belly you used to have. And frankly, you have had enough pizza and cupcakes. You have had over 35 years of it. If you want your body back this is the only solution.

Smoking vs. Fat Belly? Which is worse for your health? Would you believe smoking is a healthier alternative to being fat? Well it is, and by a long shot. When compared to smoking, heavy drinking and poverty, being overweight cost significantly more money and causes many more chronic health conditions.

Obese people (by the way that is 5’3 and over 168 pounds or 5’6” and over 185 lbs) spend more on both medical services and medication than daily smokers or heavy drinkers and they also have a much higher increase in chronic conditions. Being fat is the equivalent of aging from 30 years old to 50 years old.

To add insult to injury even though smoking only effects 19 percent of the population and heavy drinking only effects 6 percent, while obesity effects almost 60% of the American population - we do not have any measures, such as increased education, access control, taxation, protections for minors, curbs on advertising or even increased clinical attention to counter the obesity epidemic level threat to public health.

If you are wondering if you should lose weight, remember that you are killing yourself more effectively with that 30 pounds than if you smoked a pack of cigarettes a day.
